In process and on the lathe

Here's a piece I have finished hollowing but am still busy with the carving. This is the last of the Indian Mahogany. Inspired by John Jordan

A turning that I did yesterday and today - still in progress. Acacia hollow form with carving.
Same piece with a view from the top showing the carving.

The latest Pretoria meeting and some completed pieces.....

We had the March meeting of the woodturners today her in Pretoria. Along with the normal show-and-tell we had a valuable talk on sharpening.

The "homework" - soccer balls and vuvzela's especially seeing that the World Cup soccer is less than 100 days away. Done by members of Pretoria turning subgroup of Woodworking Assn.

The completed piece seen in the previous post.

The majority of the carving was done with a Ryobi reciprocating carver and the texturing done with a Dremel engraver with a rounded bit to produce a hammered effect.

Some pics from about Oct 2009

I spent Saturday at the Hobby-X show  (local expo on craft) demoing. Both the Johannesburg and Pretoria clubs were involved.  Not much else was done from a woodturning point of view so here are a few older pics.
Some vases

and lastly a hollow form with some texturing using a Dremel
