Easter holidays progress

Started doing some pyrography on a piece - still lots of hours to go.

I was given some very dry Boekenhout (Transvaal Beech) with some large cracks. Turned this hollow form and am considering what to do about the cracks. The wood is too beautiful too discard. As you can see it's "in progress".

Some miniture items completed.....

I was able to complete some items this week

The tallest is 80mm high, made from Olive (l), River Bush Willow (m) and and an unknown wood (r) given to me by a fellow turner

Apologies for the glare but the item is still being hollowed and has a couple of coats of sealer, hence the shine. It is very dry and actually not pleasant to turn but a beautiful hard wood.

Down to the dry wood...

I completed the turning portion of this piece this week. It's flatter than normal for me so it was a challenge. It's also very dry wood - I am reminded why I enjoy green wood so much. Still some carving and finishing to do.

I completed the turning of this about a year ago and now have to do some detailing. This shows how I lay out the curves for pieces that have spirals. Lots of pyrography to come. I really seem to create work for myself!

Work on a unfinished piece and playing with colour

Silver Oak, shown originally in the blog last year, it had split in the drying process so some creative changes where necessary, sanding and finish still to be done.

Unfinished Jacaranda vase with some colour applied. Lots more coats and sanding required
